Abstract:

The huge amount of data that are available has lead many individuals as well organizations to seek for a way in helping them with their decision making process. Data Analytics is the science of examining raw data with the purpose of finding patterns and drawing conclusions about that information by applying an algorithmic or mechanical process to derive insights. With today’s growth of digital data, data analytics has become crucial field that need to be looked into. It has become as one of the biggest trends for the past decade where it leads to upsurge of research. This talk will give some overview on data analytics and how it change the way we work. Besides that, the trends as well as recent research on data analytics will also be shared.

Short bio:

Kasturi Dewi Varathan, PhD., is currently a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology, University of Malaya, Malaysia. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from National University of Malaysia.  Her research focus is in the field of Information Retrieval mainly on data analytics, sentiment analysis and opinion mining in social media. She has published in several reputable journals and conferences. Her research on  data analytics won many awards in international as well as national level competitions. Research institutes too has gained from her expertise. She has served as visiting scientist to the Information Systems Research Group of the Faculty of Informatics, University of Lugano, Switzerland as well as Institute of Visual Informatics, National University of Malaysia.
